In today's episode of "Spicey Explains Stuff," White House press secretary Sean Spicer just keeps digging. Of course, when you begin by saying someone is worse than Hitler, you know it's gonna be rough going:
White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer compared Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to Adolf Hitler on Tuesday, saying that even someone as "despicable" as the German dictator "didn't even sink to using chemical weapons."
Asked moments later to clarify those remarks, Spicer, speaking from the White House podium, said that Hitler "was not using the gas on his own people the same way Assad used them."
He points out that Assad dropped them in the "middle of towns."
German Nazis murdered Jews in gas chambers during the Holocaust by the millions with the use of chemical gas agents, like Zyklon B.
Spicer acknowledged that Hitler did bring gas "into the Holocaust centers...I understand that."
Euphemism alert! Death camps and concentration camps are now to be referred to as "Holocaust centers".
Eventually Spicer made his point:
"In no way was I trying to lessen the horrendous nature of the Holocaust," Spicer said. "However, I was trying to draw a contrast of the tactic of using airplanes to drop chemical weapons on innocent people."
In other words, for an atrocity to elicit a response from this White House, the following conditions must be met: the weapons must be chemical; the people must be innocent citizens of the same country, living in its towns; and the delivery system must be airplanes. This is why Assad is worse than Hitler, who at least had the decency to round up innocent Jews and transport them by railroad cars to special Holocaust centers not in the middle of town, where they were gassed but not by airplanes.
As Charlie Pierce has been known to say, these really are the f---ing mole people.
